After hours and hours of web-searching, a replacement computer has been ordered. I found a refurbished Dell GX270 at ComputersNow.com.

Features Pentium-4 HT 2.8Ghz processor, 1Gb DDR Ram, 80Gb hard-drive, and Windows XP Pro for the OS. It’s an up-grade from XP Home, and the machine is much more than I had, for a hundred and twenty bucks.
